Water Management

OSE integrates the following three strategies to effectively reduce water consumption: water-saving production process, water recycle and reuse, efficient water management.

Due to abnormal climate conditions leading to water shortages and frequent extreme situations, water resource risks have increased. In 2022, OSE introduced the ISO 46001:2019 Water Efficiency Management System and passed third-party verification. The system was implemented to digitize the identification of water consumption and formulate policies, goals, and measures to improve water resource efficiency. We want to increase the amount of water it has access to, the rate at which it recovers process wastewater, the rate at which it recovers water from continuous wall seepage, and the rate at which it uses recycled water in its operations. The Jing 3rd Plant will expand its process wastewater recovery system by the end of 2024. Currently in the trial phase, it is expected to be officially launched in 2025, achieving a reduction in total tap water intake and accelerating the recycling and reuse of water-saving processes, helping the company move towards sustainable development goals.

Water Resource Use

OSE’s main water usage is for wafer grinding, cutting, forming, cleaning, and domestic use. The primary sources of water are from Fengshan Reservoir and Nanhua Reservoir, as well as continuous wall seepage within the plant. In 2023, OSE’s total water intake was 1,437.90 million liters, with continuous wall seepage accounting for 40.56 million liters. The main uses of water in the plant are for wafer grinding, cutting, forming, cleaning, and domestic purposes. The total water intake in 2023 increased by 19.9% compared to 2022, despite the addition of a second-phase wastewater recycling system at the Central-3 Plant (HQ). However, due to increased production capacity, the amount of tap water used also increased. In 2024, the total water intake was 1,272.90 million liters, a decrease of 16.50 million liters compared to the 1,437.90 million liters in 2023. Currently, OSE continues to plan water-saving policies and recycled water measures, promoting the importance of water conservation within the plant, actively managing, and continuously improving.

Water Recycling and Reuse

OSE is actively implementing expanding source of water intake and conserving of water usage to increase water use efficiency. In addition to water usage reduction on manufacturing processes, waste water recycling system is established and diaphragm wall drainage is recycled and reused. Our effort was awarded by the Water Resource Agency (MOEA) in 2021 with the High Distinction Award (Industrial Group) in the Units Implementing Water Conservation Improvement Plans Campaign. In the future, we will take steps to perfect our water resource management measures to further optimize water usage efficiency on our facility.
